Joint Appointments

The Viterbi APT Guidelines explain the process for joint appointments.

For new joint appointments: please provide to the Dean's Office:

  • Signed joint appointment checklist form
    • The department is responsible for securing the
      • Faculty member's signature
      • Primary department chair's signature
      • Secondary department chair's signature
    • The Dean's Office will secure the
      • Viterbi Dean's signature
      • Other Dean's signature (as applicable)
      • Provost's signature (as applicable)
  • Short dossier used to consider the joint appointment request
  • Memo from the department describing the vote
  • Note: Any new joint appointments involving a faculty member with a primary appointment external to Viterbi must first be reviewed by Viterbi's APT committee.

For renewals of existing joint appointments based on the same terms as the current appointment, please provide to the Dean's Office:

  • Signed joint appointment checklist form (see above for signature responsibilities)

For renewals of existing joint appointments, but with a change to the terms of the current appointment, please provide to the Dean's Office:

  • Signed joint appointment checklist form (see above for signature responsibilities)
  • Memo from the secondary chair explaining the request
