Post-Employment

Terminating Part-Time Faculty

Part-Time faculty contracts are issued semesterly (or over the academic year, which is encouraged), and are considered fixed term for the period.

In semesters a part-time faculty is not performing any efforts for the School, they are placed on the appropriate furlough.

In accordance with VSoE Guidelines 1.3(i), after "an individual has had up to two semesters on temporary appointments, part-time appointments and (non-)reappointments are recommended to the department chair and Dean by a committee of two or more members, which may include equally eligible part-time and full-time faculty, without a requirement of a departmental faculty meeting or vote." If the part-time faculty has not held any assignments (i.e., been on continuous furlough for three or more semesters), non-reappointment should be considered.

If you have questions about this, please contact the Provost's Faculty Affairs office.

Terminating Full-Time Faculty

For research- and teaching-track faculty, please review Non-reappointment

For tenured and probationary tenure-track faculty, please review Mid-term termination, and consult the Vice Dean for Faculty Affairs.
