Leaves and Sabbaticals
- Documenting faculty leave requests (revised October 28, 2022) - Guidelines issued by the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic and Faculty Affairs
Things to pay attention to:
- For a semester sabbatical or a sabbatical year, the dates should align with the respective dates of the semester or sabbatical year. For example: a Fall 2023 semester sabbatical should start on 8/16/23 and end on 12/31/23. For a 2023-2024 sabbatical year, the start date should be 8/16/23 and the end date should be 5/15/24.
- If a faculty member holds an administrative appointment and intends to carry out his/her administrative responsibilities while on sabbatical, then the sabbatical plan must include an affirmative statement from the faculty member about intending to carry out his/her administrative duties while on sabbatical. Additionally, the statement should explain briefly how the continuation of administrative appointments during the sabbatical will not intrude on the faculty member’s sabbatical research.
- If the sabbatical is being deferred and sabbatical accrual is being requested under the conditions allowed by the policy on sabbatical deferrals, a memo from the department chair must provide a request and justification for the sabbatical accrual.
